The aftermath of the revolution made as a big a deal as the revolution. The revolution was successful as the Shah was no longer in power and Ayatollah Khomeini became the leader of Iran. Iran's government became a theocracy which had Ayatollah Khomeini be the leader of religion and politics. With the new government, many reforms by the Shah were ejected and Iran still rules by the same ideas after the revolution now. Had the revolution not happened the Iranian Hostage Crisis likely would not have happened because the Shah had good ties with the U.S but Khomeini dismissed Western ideas and had bad ties with the U.S. The goals of the revolutionaries were met aside from the Shah not officially relinquishing his power. Society after the revolution was greatly changed. Komitehs were made which enforce Islamic clothing and behavioral code. Women had a lot of their rights revoked. Iran is still a theocracy to this day. Ties with the U.S are still bad to this day. The U.S is sanctioning Iran after leaving the Iran Nuclear Deal.
