1962-63, Ayatollah speaks against the Shah. Ayatollah spoke against the Shah’s White Revolution which included enfranchisement for women and land reform, in particular religious estates being sold. He also spoke against the Shah’s foreign policy in how the Shah was cozying up with the Soviet Union, United States of America and Israel a sworn enemy of Islamism.
4th, Nov. 1964, Ayatollah is exiled from Iran and he moves to Iraq. From there, he continues to call for the Shah’s resignation and then later moves to France in 1978 after being exiled from Iraq. He continues to call for the abdication of the Shah from France.
16th, Jan. 1979, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi flees Iran due to excessive rioting and calls it a vacation. He set up the Regency Council to run the country in his absence, but they failed to function, and the hurriedly appointed Prime Minister Shapour Bakhtiar could not compromise with his opponents.
1st, Feb. 1979, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned to Tehran, Iran 15 years after exile and millions of people in Iran went to Tehran to see Ayatollah Khomeini finally return. After his arrival, more protests against the Shah’s Regency Council and PM Shapour Bakhtiar arose and Bakhtiar fled from Iran 10 days after Ayatollah Khomeini won his referendum.
1st, April 1979, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini won by an avalanche in a national referendum and was appointed the Supreme Leader of Iran which made him Iran’s religious and political leader. He was their leader until his death in 1989.
